HELENA, MT — Matt Rosendale released the following statement on the Helena City Commission’s proposal to defund Helena Police Department’s School Resource Officer program. The Commission is scheduled to make their final decision on the matter at a meeting this evening.
“School Resource Officers are the first line of defense keeping our children safe at school. Kathleen Williams’ silence, refusing to condemn efforts to defund law enforcement and decrease public safety spending, sets a dangerous precedent. This is an issue that everyone, regardless of political party, should unite around. These men and women put their lives on the line to keep us safe—they deserve the support of our elected leaders, not silence. I will always stand in firm support of law enforcement and oppose any attempts to defund the police.”
